Various aspects of your chute system are designed to prevent a fire from escaping containment. These simple design choices must be implemented correctly and maintained accordingly.
Your first line of defense is the trash chute discharge door. This door automatically closes when a fire is detected at the bottom of the chute. This prevents the natural upward draft from providing air for any grime on the chute walls to burn as fuel.
Your second line of defense is a clean chute. If your chute isn't lined with trash grime, there is nothing to burn up the column. Schedule a cleaning soon if your building passes the qualifications for the third line of defense.
Your third line of defense is a proper seal on every trash chute intake door. Code-compliant doors are fire-rated and prevent a draft from allowing flames to escape into the trash intake room. If these can't seal, or are not joined properly to the chute, then the system cannot be cleaned by our High Pressure Steam Blast™ process until fixed.
